Excellent and solid construction – Extremely functional – a real keeper
Perfect. Very well made. Solid construction. I’m especially fond of the the little pull out drawer under the keyboard tray. The one that came with my desk wore out. This one is wider and deeper. I have a glass top desk so it isn’t very thick, but the clamps on this one screw down far enough so that it very solidly held in place. It was less expensive than most. I couldn’t be happier.Update. When I pull out the tray, it sticks just a bit. It has to be a fairly tight fit, so that the tray isn’t flippy/floppy. I pulled out the tray and put a bit of cooking oil on my finder, and rubbed it into the tray track. It did the trick.

Helpful to make things more functional. I have a shallow/narrow desk, and a big computer screen, so I felt like I was in the first row at the movie theatre. This helped me to be able to move further back from the screen, making my time using the computer more enjoyable. It’s nice to have the compartment for pens and whatnot, too.

I purchased the HUANUO Keyboard Tray (Model HNKB17) as a solution to an unexpected compatibility issue rather than as part of my original desk plan.My desk (SEDATA) includes a factory keyboard tray option, but due to unclear assembly instructions, a support component could be installed in two different orientations. The issue only became apparent at the final stage of assembly. Correcting it would have required dismantling two fully assembled desk surfaces after roughly 12 hours of work, which wasn’t practical, so I looked for an aftermarket solution instead.While shopping for keyboard trays, I noticed a critical detail that is almost never clearly listed: C-clamp clearance depth. Most product listings focus on tray width and depth, but fail to specify how much vertical space the clamps themselves require. This matters a lot if your desk uses metal cross members or reinforcement bars underneath.After testing multiple trays, the HUANUO HNKB17 proved to be the best fit. My desk has metal crossbars underneath that typically interfere with clamp-mounted accessories. With approximately two inches of vertical clearance, this tray clamps fully and securely without contacting or conflicting with the support structure.I’ve attached two types of photos for clarity:Photos of the existing desk components and cross members, so buyers can clearly see the kind of structural interference that often causes fitment issues.A photo of the finished installation, showing how the tray clamps cleanly and operates once installed.One minor but noticeable point: after attaching the auxiliary tray underneath the main keyboard tray, everything tightened down properly and feels secure overall. However, there is a small amount of play between the auxiliary tray and the brackets that hold it in place. I understand that some tolerance may be intentional, but I would personally prefer a tighter, zero-play fit. This is a minor irritation, not a functional problem, but worth noting for buyers who are sensitive to movement.Additionally, I noticed an issue with one of the C-clamps, specifically the left clamp. The Phillips-head screw that secures the metal pressure plate (shown in the photos) was not fully tightened out of the box. The placement of this screw makes it difficult to access with a standard screwdriver and really requires a right-angle Phillips tool, which I did not have on hand. I’m not sure whether this was intentional for shipping or a quality-control oversight, but it does slightly undermine confidence in an otherwise solid clamp design. I may attempt to loosen the assembly enough to finish tightening the screw by hand.One additional assembly note worth mentioning: no extra screws are included with this kit. Be careful not to lose any hardware during assembly. Also, during step two, when installing part number three (the backstop), be mindful not to overtighten. You are screwing directly into wood, and it appears relatively easy to strip if too much torque is applied.I may still remove the original factory tray later to improve slide clearance, but even in its current configuration, this HUANUO tray operates smoothly and offers significantly better storage space and usability than the factory option.Bottom line:If your desk has crossbars, tight underside clearance, or unclear compatibility with clamp-mounted trays, this is a well-designed and practical solution. As long as you have around two inches of clamp clearance, this tray should fit and function well. That said, clamp screw accessibility, minor tolerance play, and the lack of spare hardware are areas where the design and packaging could be improved.
